Magnolia Branch Art
The branch features artwork by artists Ebba Rapp McLauchlan and Kristin Tollefson.
“Girl Holding Doves” and “Doves on Driftwood” by Ebba Rapp McLauchlan (1909-1985)
Ebba Rapp was a Seattle artist and teacher who specialized in many disciplines including painting, sculpting, printmaking and more. She attended and taught at the Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle and attended the University of Washington. She was an active member of the Women Painters of Washington and won several awards for her work. Her sculpture pieces “Girl Holding Doves” and “Doves on Driftwood,” on display at the Magnolia Branch, were funded and commissioned by Magnolia residents following the branch's opening in 1964. Rapp's work has also been featured by the Seattle Art Museum, the Frye Art Museum, the Seattle World's Fair, the Tacoma Art Museum, the Denver Art Museum and many others.
“Catch + Release” by Kristin Tollefson
Bainbridge Island artist Kristin Tollefson designed a pair of site-specific sculptures called “Catch + Release” for the building - a branch suspended from the meeting room above the south window and a basket outside the south window. In addition, artwork on display in the original building is now back in the expanded branch.
