The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, public entities, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation and telecommunications.
We provide accommodations by request for patrons with disabilities, including ADA accommodations for access to library buildings and services and accommodations for library programs and events such as ASL interpretation, assistive listening devices and other accommodations.
We established the Library Equal Access Program to provide services to blind, deaf, deaf-blind, hard of hearing, and visually impaired individuals. This program provides adaptive equipment resources and other Library services for use by patrons with disabilities. LEAP is on Level 1 of the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104.

We welcome patrons who benefit from having a service animal accompany them. A service animal is defined as "an animal that is trained for the purpose of assisting or accommodating a person's sensory, mental, or physical disability." Service animals must follow our Rules of Conduct. More information can be found in the Library's Service Animal Procedure.
