The Seattle Public Library Presents 'The Library of Black Lies': an Interactive Workshop and Conversation on May 18

What happens when book art meets a community-based conversation about Blackness during challenging political times? Participate in this conversation while creating book collages from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Wa Na Wari, 911 24th Ave.
About the event
Join artists Edgar Arcenaux and Damion Hayes for an interactive workshop at the community-based art space Wa Na Wari. During the workshop, participants will respond to Arcenaux's work and contemporary conversations about anti-Blackness, Black joy and racial justice while literally deconstructing collected books via collage and more.
Arcenaux's Henry Art Gallery installation "Library of Black Lies" grapples with the different and sometimes contradictory meanings of Blackness by questioning how we make up meanings through books and beyond.
Local curator, gallerist and craftsman Hayes will explore what it means to make space and make meaning by making exhibits, convening people, and most recently by wood working.
