Japanese Genealogy Seminar at The Seattle Public Library Feb. 2-3

Curious about your Japanese heritage? Professional genealogist Linda Harms Okazaki presents a two-day seminar on how to research Japanese-American genealogy from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 to Sunday, Feb. 3 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Washington Mutual Foundation meeting Room 1, 206-386-4636.
Library events are free and everyone is welcome. Parking is available in the Central Library's garage for $8. Registration is required, space is limited to 40 registrants.
SCHEDULE
Saturday, Feb. 2: beginning genealogists
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Exploring Our Nikkei Genealogy. This all-day program is geared toward entry-level family historians who have friends or family with Japanese ancestry. Those who attend this session are invited to return Sunday afternoon for "Ask a Genealogist."
Sunday, Feb. 3: intermediate to advanced genealogists
9 a.m. to noon – Japanese American Research for Genealogists. The morning program is designed for intermediate and advanced researchers who are unfamiliar with these records or this culture. All topics from Saturday will be covered, but at a faster pace. Genealogists who attend the morning program will be asked to volunteer their research skills on Sunday afternoon for "Ask a Genealogist." Please bring a laptop.
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – "Ask a Genealogist." This is an opportunity for Saturday's registrants to get started on their family history journey by talking to an experienced researcher. Learn how to search for and order the records discussed during the Saturday program. The focus will be on U.S. records.
