National Women and Girls HIV/Aids Awareness Day: Panel Discussion at The Seattle Public Library April 5

The Seattle Public Library will host a panel discussion on what can be done to address the HIV epidemic from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Howard S. Wright Family & Janet W. Ketcham Meeting Room 2, 206-386-4636 .
Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $7.
This conversation will also be a celebration for women and girls impacted by HIV, especially women of color. Since the beginning of the U.S. HIV epidemic, women-both cisgender and transgender-have been living with the virus, working to improve the lives of people with HIV, and acting to stop the spread of the virus. The discussion will focus on what people are doing to address the U.S. HIV epidemic in 2017.
The discussion will include the following speakers:
Leah Dodge, Urban Indian Health Institute
Julene Tripp Weaver, local author and poet
Dr. Michele Andrasik, HIV Vaccine Trials Network
Jade Dynasty, local artist
After the discussion, there will be a ceremony to honor women who have passed away and all women who continue to experience HIV-related stigma and violence.
This event is presented in partnership with The Seattle Public Library Foundation, BABES Network -YWCA, the Center for Multicultural Health, and the Office of HIV/AIDS Network Coordination-Legacy Project.
