The Seattle Public Library will offer genealogy workshops in October at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave, Level 4, Boeing Technology Training Center Room 4, 206-386-4636.

Library events are free and open to the public. Online registration is required for both workshops. To register, visit the event's calendar listing. Parking is available in the Central Library garage at the regular rates.

Genealogy: Getting Started10 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 1. Genealogy librarian Mahina Oshie will give an introduction to family history research and an overview of Seattle-area research resources. You'll receive sample genealogy charts and bibliographies to help you get started with your own research.

Genealogy: Databases – Ancestry Library Edition2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8. Genealogy librarian John LaMont will demonstrate how to use the electronic databases and internet resources found on the Library's website to search for ancestors. This workshop will focus on how to use Ancestry Library Edition.

Tour the Genealogy Section10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15. Genealogy librarian Mahina Oshie will give a walking tour of the Library's genealogy section. Print and nonprint materials will be discussed. The tour begins at the Level 9 reference desk.

Genealogy: Introduction to DNA2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22. Genealogy librarian John LaMont will talk about DNA testing for genealogy. You'll learn about the different types of tests, major DNA testing companies, and tools and techniques for analyzing the results.

The Library gives everyone the opportunity to learn and excel through our educational resources, classes and staff assistance. Family researchers can get genealogy support online, and in-person help is available at workshops and one-on-one appointments.
