We have several workshops in September that will help you start an art business, protect your intellectual property, learn from big and small business experts, network with other businesses and more.


            Intellectual Property 101 - 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, PACCAR Inc. Meeting Room 6, 206-386-4636. Interested in how to protect your creations and innovations as intellectual property? Learn the ways intellectual property law can protect and enhance your business.

            Speed Coaching by Samuel Adams - Brewing the American Dream - 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at Impact Hub, 220 2nd Ave. S. Are you a food, beverage or craft brewing small business owner? Looking for business advice? Business experts at this speed coaching event (including our librarians!) will help you! You'll have the chance to meet for multiple 20-minute sessions with Samuel Adams employees and local business experts, and receive personalized coaching and network with other small business owners. Registration is required.

            Making More of a Business of Your Art - 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Boeing Technology Training Center Room 4, 206-386-4636. Explore 20 practical steps for turning your art into a part- or full-time business. You'll learn about auctions and contests, promotion, and embracing the internet as a sales and marketing platform. This workshop is for all visual artists, 2D and 3D, working in any type of medium, including watercolor, ceramics, photography and jewelry.

            Restaurant Success Orientation - 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Rainier Beach Branch, 9125 Rainier Ave. S., 206-386-1906. An introduction to learn about resources available for restaurant and mobile food business owners. Registration is recommended but not required.

            Biz Fair - 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Renton Technical College, 3000 N.E. 4th St. Come find out how the library can help you start or grow your business at Biz Fair. Look for representatives from the Library who will be at the Washington State Small Business Fair to talk about tools and resources to support your business information needs.

            DIY Market Research Workshop (At Biz Fair) - 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Renton Technical College, 3000 N.E. 4th St. Whatever stage your business is at, it’s vital to stay ahead of the competition. Information is key to success but can be expensive or time-consuming if you don’t know where to look. Find out how to easily navigate various databases available through your local library to help you make informed decisions in your business planning, marketing, site location and market analysis. Also, gain valuable information and insights to better understand local economic conditions, customers, and more.
