Refurbished Beacon Hill Branch of The Seattle Public Library Reopens 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13

The Seattle Public Library's Beacon Hill Branch, 2821 Beacon Ave. S., 206-684-4711, will reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 after being closed for five weeks for refurbishing.
The 12-year-old branch closed Jan. 9, 2017, for improvements that support the changing ways that patrons are using libraries.
Improvements included upgrading the lighting, reconfiguring the teen and children's areas, adding power in seating areas and at tables, moving the public computers closer to the print station, and consolidating service desks into a single service point. The worn carpeting also was replaced.
The branch will reopen before the full renovation is complete to limit the closure period for the public. Most of the remaining work will happen outside of open hours. We will hold a public celebration in the spring after all the work is complete.
The changes were designed to improve access to technology, make it easier for patrons to interact with one another, and create flexible, open, welcoming spaces throughout the building.
The Library promised to protect the public's investment in its buildings as part of the 2012 voter-approved Library levy. The Beacon Hill Branch improvements are part of the Library's commitment to ensuring its buildings are well-maintained, clean and comfortable for patrons.
Patrons who picked up their holds at another branch during the closure should talk with a staff member if they need help to restore their holds pickup location to the Beacon Hill Branch.
