The Seattle Public Library will host art showcases, film screenings and concerts at several locations throughout the city in December.

We're Still Here: An Art Showcase for Members of Chief Seattle Club - 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 8 Gallery, 206-386-4636. Join us for the closing event of We're Still Here, an art exhibit done in partnership with Chief Seattle Club. Come see the art of Chief Seattle Club members and learn more about this organization.
Ladies Musical Club Concert - 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the West Seattle Branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W., 206-684-7444. Join us for a concert by Ladies Musical Club Opera: Operetta from Around the World. Performers will include: Regina Thomas and Katie Hochman, sopranos; Janene Nelson, mezzo-soprano; and Joan Lundquist, piano.
Ladies Musical Club Concert - Noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Join us for a concert featuring Heggie’s "On the Road to Christmas" as well as trios for oboe, clarinet & bassoon. Performers will include Gwen Trussler, mezzo-soprano; Joan Lundquist, piano; Gail Perstein, oboe; Eric Shankland (guest artist), bassoon; and Julie Shankland, clarinet.

Join us for the screening of the Chinese movie "The Nightingale" (2013) with English subtitles. Accompanied by his granddaughter and his pet bird, a widower leaves Beijing to return to his native village in this heartwarming family drama. This movie was nominated for Best Narrative Feature at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble Concert - 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W., 206-684-4089. Enjoy a concert by members of the Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble, a group of young harp students under the direction of Susi Hussong. They will play holiday favorites from around the world and will be joined by violin, cello, flute, bells, drums and voice.

Join us for a screening of the Chinese movie "Chinese Odyssey" (2002) with English subtitles. An action-comedy that follows royal heirs Princess Wushuang and future Emperor Zheng De as they escape the Forbidden City to taste life among Ming Dynasty China's have-nots. Combining swordfights, slapstick, satire, songs and genuine sentiment, the film is a lightning-paced big-screen adventure.
Movies at the Central Library - 2:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 4, Howard S. Wright Family & Janet W. Ketcham Meeting Room 2, 206-386-4636. Join us for a screening of "Quest - An Intimate Portrait of an African-American Family" (2017). This New York Times Critics' Pick, filmed in the intimate vérité style for nearly a decade, is a moving portrait of the Rainey family living in North Philadelphia. Beginning at the dawn of the Obama presidency, Christopher "Quest" Rainey, and his wife, Christine'a "Ma Quest" raise a family while nurturing a community of hip-hop artists in their home music studio. It's a safe space where all are welcome, but this creative sanctuary can't always shield them from the strife that grips their neighborhood.
Scarecrow Video - 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29 at the Ballard Branch, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W., 206-684-4089. Scarecrow Video presents a screening of "Sunset Boulevard" (1950), an American film noir drama about a screenwriter who develops a dangerous relationship with a faded film star determined to make a triumphant comeback to stardom. Directed by Billy Wilder and starring William Holden, Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim, this is the last film in our four-part "Femme Noir" movie series.
