Announcing Book Selections for The Seattle Public Library's 25th Year of the 2020 Global Reading Challenge

The Seattle Public Library's Global Reading Challenge for fourth and fifth grade students blasts off today with a reveal of this year's books! New this year, in the program’s 25th year, some of the books will be offered with unlimited access licenses in e-book and e-audiobook formats—meaning no wait times to access those titles! All of the program’s books will still also be available from the Library’s print and digital collections. E-formats available are listed on Overdrive.

Our mission with the Global Reading Challenge is to encourage reading as a fun and recreational activity that allows fourth and fifth grade students of all reading abilities to engage in the sport of reading.
This citywide program is a collaborative effort between The Seattle Public Library and Seattle Public Schools. Students form teams and read 10 books, then take part in a trivia competition, answering questions about the books to determine the winner for the city of Seattle. The winning team from each school proceeds to the semi-finals, and the winner for each semi-final advances to the City Final Challenge.
The Global Reading Challenge is made possible by funding from The Seattle Public Library Foundation, Northwest Literacy Foundation, the Ballard and Fremont Rotary clubs and Toni Myers.
