Summary of Adult Learning Programs

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes

  • We offered English language learning and conversation classes for adults and families
  • Nearly 4,500 Seattle residents attended more than 380 English language classes in 2018

Citizenship classes

  • We offered classes to help people prepare for the U.S. citizenship interview and civics test
  • 920 total attendance at U.S. citizenship classes held in 2018
  • 62 people from 23 countries became U.S. Citizens at a Naturalization Ceremony at the Central Library April 13

Adult education workshops

  • We offered help with job readiness, GED preparation, life skills and more through one-to-one adult education tutoring.
  • 4,014 adults attended adult education workshops in 2018
  • 380+ classes offered through community partnerships

Other key 2018 initiatives

  • Computer classes for Somali refugee women have continued at the NewHolly Branch
  • We continue to offer a Fake News Survival class
  • 4,478 patrons took 400 classes to learn new technology skills
  • The Library and community partners published an alphabet board book in Somali
  • More than 270 people got personalized learning plans from the popular Your Next Skill service
